PCG campaign highlights positive impact of contractorsContractors Freelancing NewsPosted on: 12 February 2010![]() The positive impact that freelance workers have on the UK's economy has been highlighted in a new national advertising campaign.
Launched by the PCG, the initiative - titled Britain's Brain Gain - will aim to raise awareness of the £82 billion which contractors and other temporary workers contribute to the country. Managing director (MD) of the organisation John Brazier has been able to call on the support of businessmen such as Kwik Fit founder Sir Tom Farmer and Skype chairman Michael van Swaajj to promote the campaign. And Mr Brazier urged company leaders across the country to recognise the benefits that freelance staff can play to their firms in terms of risk management and innovation. "I would say to every MD in the UK, while your competitor is thinking about it, you could have a team of freelancers delivering it," he said. The profile of freelancers was also recently raised by Professional Passport, which came up with a definition of a professional contractor - a move which could see workers in the sector made exempt from IR35 and other legislation.
